Ildikó Sz. Fejes: MuzeumStat – Museums in numbers

The National Centre for Museological Methodology and Information was founded in 2011 by the decision of the Ministry of Human Capacities. One of the first tasks of the Centre was to create and launch an integrated professional database for the Hungarian museum institutions. The constantly developing system contains statistical data of the museums and the municipalities, EU co-funded museum projects, contact information of the Hungarian museums, basic documents (operating licenses, deeds of foundation), as well as specialized surveillance reports, an management modules and an inventory module that supports the surveillance. New problems arisen from the reporting practices made automated solutions possible only in few cases. During the ongoing development, the coherence within each data group (annual statistical reports), then among the data groups had to be created in order to launch the online service. Our goal was to create a niche, user-friendly and informative service using data visualization techniques that display the results in a spectacular way. The online service enables the users to access to nearly 10-year of most the important figures of the museum institutions and their operating environment.
